Yap is known as the island of manta rays because you can see mantas here consistently. A new find is the manta ray cleaning station where the mantas queue up to have parasites removed from them by small wrasses. These rays have a wing span of 10-20ft and weigh in at approximately 1,000lbs. Popular dives here are Mill Channel, Manta Ray Pass and Gufnuw Channel. We offer the following dive operators:
Yap Divers, which is just adjacent to, and operated in conjunction with the Manta Ray Bay Hotel, is a PADI 5-Star dive centre, and has two resident dive instructors and a fleet of various sized boats to meet the needs of all occasions.
Yap Divers provides a host of services including equipment sales and service, a repair workshop, training rooms, freshwater rinse tubs, lock-up equipment drying shed and a boat dock.
As a direct dealer for Scubapro, Oceanic and Tusa, Yap Divers' prices for accessories and equipment are attractive, especially as Yap is also a duty free port. Buying gear here makes a lot of sense. Yap Divers' full-day boat diving charters include a highly experienced dive guide, two tanks, weightbelts, refreshments and lunch. One great and unique diving treat is manta watching, as this is one of the few places in the world where mantas are found year round. Other sites feature spectacular, largely unexplored reefs and amazing wall dives.
There are introductory scuba diver courses for beginners and more experienced divers can attend Assistant Instructor level courses.
Beyond The Reef Beyond The Reef offers daily 'two tank' dive/snorkelling excursions to thrilling dive sites of pristine coral reefs and spectacular marine life around the island of Yap aboard uncrowded dive boats. Their dedicated dive centre located at the Marina Restaurant in Colonia meets strict international standards of safety and quality in offering complete rental equipment and providing PADI instruction from introductory scuba lessons through to Divemaster certification.
Or for the experience of a lifetime there is nothing to compare with the thrill of trolling, casting or bottom fishing for Pacific Blue Marlin, Yellowfin and Skipjack Tuna, Wahoo, Barracuda, Snapper, Trevally, and Groper aboard Beyond The Reef's modern and fully-equipped 22-foot sportfishing charter boat.
